This long-term monitoring information helps us better conserve our bats.


Currently, the LTBMP focuses on acoustic monitoring. The information we gather enables us to determine a variety of things, including:


  • What bat species are present at a given location.
  • When a bat species is present during a certain time of year.
  • How habitat type or land management influence where bats occur.


By using consistent methods to collect data, we can better understand long-term trends in bat populations and have a better idea of how our bat species are doing in Florida.

​Lubee Bat Conservancy in Gainesville, FL is hosting the 19th Annual Florida Bat Festival on Saturday, October 21st! The Festival is a wonderful way to celebrate and spread bat conservation awareness while enjoying all the batty fun festivities! This is one of the few opportunities to visit the giant fruit bats at Lubee (see event details: https://www.lubee.org/event-details/fl-bat-festival-2023). The Florida Bat Working Group will again be tabling at the event this year. Contact the FLBWG Outreach and Education Committee if you are interested in assisting or have raffle items to share. Several other FLBWG members will be stationed at nearby booths. For anyone coming to Gainesville for the Festival, there will be an informal FLBWG meet-up the night before (Friday 20th) to visit the University of Florida Bat Houses at sunset, followed by dinner/drinks at a local restaurant. ]]><![CDATA[2022 Florida Bat Working Group Meeting]]>Tue, 29 Mar 2022 17:19:45 GMThttps://www.flbwg.net/news-feed/2022-florida-bat-working-group-meetingThe working group meeting will be held over the course of two days: Tuesday March 29th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm (ET) and Wednesday March 30th from 9:30 am - 5:00 pm (ET). Day 1 will feature several talks and presentations on various subjects. The abstracts for our featured presentations are attached to this message. Day 2 will be comprised of our annual Working Group Business Meeting and breakout sessions for committee meetings or topic discussions. Both meeting days include an hour-long lunch and multiple breaks.   
 
Your attendance to the 2022 meeting will help partners around the state learn about current bat conservation and management efforts in Florida, support science-based conservation of Florida’s bats, promote skill-building, and assist in networking with colleagues.
