Florida Long Term Bat Monitoring Program

Florida’s Long-term Bat Monitoring Program (LTBMP), established in 2018, is a statewide program collecting long-term, standardized information to monitor the 13 resident bat species we have in Florida. This long-term monitoring information helps us better conserve our bats.


Currently, the LTBMP focuses on acoustic monitoring. The information we gather enables us to determine a variety of things, including:

• What bat species are present at a given location.
• When a bat species is present during a certain time of year.
• How habitat type or land management influence where bats occur.

By using consistent methods to collect data, we can better understand long-term trends in bat populations and have a better idea of how our bat species are doing in Florida.
